Oral Surgery at Smile

David Pagliero BDS FDSRCS (UK)

David Pagliero offers a convenient specialist service for you, doing our routine and complex extractions and all forms of surgery - including wisdom tooth surgery, gum surgery and implant surgery. All procedures can be carried out under sedation where suitable.

Our Oral Surgeon

David graduated from the London Hospital Medical College in 1992, with a keen interest in surgery. After two years in general practice in Essex, and doing a concurrent part-time assistant post in Oral Surgery in Epping, he moved permanently into the field of oral surgery and currently holds a full time senior position as Staff Grade Oral Surgeon in the Department of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery at the Royal Devon & Exeter Hospital where he has worked since 1995. In 1996 he gained his FDS at the Royal College of Surgeons of England and in 2000 was awarded Specialist Status in Surgical Dentistry by the General Dental Council. He has extensive experience in all forms of head and neck surgery. He has a long-standing interest in dental implantology and in past years has won scholarships to both Toronto and Gothenburg to further his knowledge and experience in this field.

He has an active interest in postgraduate education and lectures locally to dental nurses, dental and medical practitioners, and nationally to vocational trainees.
He also currently sits on both the councils of the British Association of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeons and the British Association of Surgical Dentistry, and is locally active with the Exeter & District section of the British Dental Association.

Socially, he is an outdoors man who loves all sports and is competent at all of them - from waterskiing, windsurfing and wake-boarding, to tennis, cricket and golf. He loves music and is an excellent pianist.
Information about your surgery

Consultation visit

Referrals for patients who do not attend Smile need to have a consultation appointment with David to assess their needs. Patients referred by our dentists in Smile may need this consultation for more complex treatments but not generally for routine procedures.

What happens at this consultation visit?

At this consultation visit, Mr Pagliero will answer all your questions about your surgery and provide you with a printed estimate of treatment costs. He will explain about the procedure along with anything you should know about aftercare, time off work etc along wth details of any medication that he recommends specifically for you.

Is there any paperwork that I need to complete?

You may be asked to complete a consent form and sign your estimate to ensure that we have explained everything to your satisfaction and to prevent any misunderstandings.

Should I take time off work for my surgery?

Most oral surgery is minor and will not need to have time off work. You will be advised if we feel that some time off work is indicated. Treatment under sedation requires that you take the day off but you are able to go back to work the following day.

Will I need any medication afterwards?

Any discomfort is usually managed well with paracetamol or ibuprofen. You may be given antibiotics to prevent infections.

Can I drive afterwards?

Some patients prefer to have someone drive them to the practice so they do not have to worry about driving home after a procedure.
Appointments with David Pagliero are arranged by referral from your Dentist.

On receipt of your referral, his nurse will contact you to arrange your appointments at a convenient time.

Any queries about your surgery should be directed to his Nurse, Joanne Ward, who can be contacted at the practice on
