Dental treatment for children at Smile

Further information about each club and what is included, is outlined in detail in the relevant Smile Club leaflet/s obtainable at reception.

3 years - 6 years     THE TINY SMILEY CLUB             £70

7 years- 10 years     THE BRIGHT SMILES CLUB          £81

11 years-15 years    SMILES AHEAD                       £91

This annual fee is payable in 2 equal instalments at your Childs 6 monthly examination.

Pay-as-you-go

With this option you pay for your children’s dental treatment at each appointment as you go.  After the initial assessment, dental examinations will be £17.00. You have no commitment to an educational or preventive programme, however, should treatment with the dental hygienist or the dentist be required, it will be provided at full adult rates.  (These are detailed in our Smile Fee Guide in your practice brochure and are subject to annual review.)  Children in this option will not be entitled to attend the Smile fun days or receive the membership packs.

If you are unsure about which option would be right for your children, your dentist will be very happy to answer any questions when you attend for your visit.

Smile Dental PractiseYour children’s dental health is an absolute priority for us. We aim to provide the very best care for you and your family.

We believe in the prevention of tooth decay and gum disease - to build good foundations for oral health for life.  Registration of your children at a young age, and regular visits to the practice along with you as parents throughout their formative years helps prevent dental decay and gum disease. This allows familiarity with dentistry, the team, and the practice environment and gives us the opportunity for repeated health messages and careful, detailed monitoring of their mouths.

Outside the restraints of the National Health Service, we  offer a full range of the latest treatments and materials, including tooth coloured fillings, ceramic crowns, fissure sealants, along with all the special  extras at Smile – time,  very gentle treatment, flavoured gum numbing creams, the Wand local anaesthetic, DVD glasses and CD menu.

For children who find treatment difficult, we provide “happy air” which makes them happy and giggly.  Children particularly enjoy this experience and it can make a previously anxious child willing and happy to receive treatment.

The options for your children’s care are :-

For children under 3 years, the dentist will examine your child free of charge within your normal dental examination visit whilst they sit on your lap if they are under 18 months.  This is designed to introduce them to the environment at an early age. For children over 18 months a child’s examination fee will be charged.

For children over 18 months, there are two options: -

È              ‘The Smile Club’ - We have a fully comprehensive preventive dental programme in the form of a children’s club.  It is designed to be fun, friendly and educational, whilst providing the very best in modern dental care.

È              Pay-as-you-go private patient.

For children 16 years and over – Full adult fees apply

What is involved?

To register at Smile, children must have at least one parent registered here at Smile.  New children registering must have a thorough initial dental assessment at a cost of £33.50 to include any small X-rays.  They must be dentally fit, so any treatment that is required after this initial visit must be completed before they decide whether they wish to join the Smile club or pay-as-you-go.

The Smile Club

Children may then join the Club at their next dental examination visit.  On joining the Club children receive a ‘Membership Pack’ of dental health products, information, fun motivational items and a ‘Smile Passport’ to document their visits.  In order to maintain the membership of this club, children must attend the surgery four times in a twelve month period; twice for their dental examination and twice for preventive visits with the hygienist. For younger children, the hygienist visits will take the form of fun, activity days at the practice.  For the older children, it will be by individual appointment for education, scaling and polishing as needed.

At each visit to Smile, your children will receive a stamp in their passport to document their preventive visit, along with motivational gifts.  They will be invited to enter an annual competition for a dental related prize.  Educational material will build up into a preventive portfolio to act as a reference for both you and your children.

It is our belief that if your children have completed our preventive dental health programme in our Smile Club, there should be minimal need for any restorative dental treatment. As a reward for your commitment to prevention by your regular attendance, if club members need treatment, this will be provided at up to 50% reduction of standard adult fees.

We have divided dental care for children into three groups related to their age and dental development and this is reflected in the annual fee for membership for the different groups.
